I have many thoughts about the condition of our people. The cares of the day pushes those thoughts in the background, I’m sad to say, until the next incident raises its head.

I have asked these questions many times. Did integration hurt us? Why do we mistrust each other in business and life in general? Those are not the only two questions…….I have many more.

I read somewhere that Black people have been the only people to come out of bondage and have not left the place of their captivity. I can only assume that our ancestors felt that they built the country and had rights to it. People like Marcus Garvey were destroyed by the FBI for his “Back to Africa” agenda. Through the years we built our own banks, hotels, restaurants etc. Blacks did business with each other because know one else would. Those businesses blossomed like Madam CJ Walker who not only created the products but employed other women to become an independent sales force. The cycle of money in Black Wall Street circulated over 100 times before it left the community. Jealous whites burned down.

WHEN we were ALLOWED to go in the front door of establishments, we did because we could. We should have left through the back door where we started. In 2007, we still give our hard earned dollars to others. In doing so, partly the cause, black owned businesses close at a rapid rate. Many of us complain about those businesses (shelves not full, not enough of something) but many of us don't offer any suggestions for improvement, we just go somewhere else. Other nationalities work for and with each other. Their fights with each other are behind closed doors – to the outside world, they become a united front. The cycle of money in their community circulates about 10-20 times while ours leaves our community in 15 minutes.

There is much debate over reparations. There are many of us that believe done are do. Opponents believe slavery was a legal institution so no crime was committed. We should forget about slavery and move on. Slavery is over and then who would receive payments since all the slaves are dead? Who are their descendants? No one wants to talk about slavery and the effects of it on our community. One example to learn about that subject is to pickup the book or DVD on Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome. It’s alright to never forget the Holocaust. We should never forget what has been done to us EITHER. Although we shouldn't get stuck there, we need to come to terms.....that THERE IS A PROBLEM! I don’t care who has made it out of the ghetto! Too many of us are still in the ghetto, stuck (what ever the reasons). Those who say I made it, you can too are full of it and brainwashed. Have something to add?
