America - A Continuing Saga

This story begins November 22, 2006 in a urban city of the United States of America. I wrote out USA because when written in full it strikes fear in some, patriotism in others. As the story unfolds, you will see it does neither for these players. There is no glory or dream just a system not working.

At approximately 7 pm, he decided to stop at a neighborhood bar before going home to his girl and Chinese food delivery, shoot some pool and have a cold beer. If your a smoker you know after a cold one you need that nicotine (they had to make it addictive), so he went outside for a couple of pulls. Smokers have to pay the price by leaving a building and it is the tobacco companies pissing off elected officials, even though they allowed smoking to be legal. Anyway, I get side tracked as you will see.

7:44 pm pulling a long drag, shots ring out - the smokers scatter - ducking because no one knows where the shots are coming from. Time slows down or moves faster based on the perspective, POP! POP!! POP! running....."damn i've been shot!" head spinning - back in the bar, hoping they didn't follow him. As he laid on the floor in a pool of his own blood, he wondered if this is how his life ends? At 22, was this all there was left.

The police roll up slow - reports of guns fired, makes one of them regrets not wearing the vest that evening. They wanted to know "do you know who shot you?" All he could reply is "some young nigga with a gun, please get me to the hospital!"

This continuing saga is true, a story of countless young black men in America.......to be continued.
